ul Grisenauer was the operator of James Towne Collony Pottery. In 1921, he became highly skilled at making bricks and pottery using the clay from the Piney Grove area near Jamestown, Virginia. Griesenauer was a skilled pottery maker who experimented with various glaze treatments. James Towne Collony Pottery flourished at this time (1921-1930's). Griesenauer duplicated old pieces discovered during the Williamsburg and Jamestown excavations, re-introducing them with vibrant glaze work. His work is now valuable collector's pieces, rare and difficult to find.
