    Description

Hello Folks.... This is a vintage, seldom seen, fantastic looking, Amusement Park / Carnival - Spaceship / Rocket / Airplane Ride.
The true name for this vintage ride is, “Jet Fighter Airplane Ride” which was built by Smith & Smith Amusement Rides, Inc. based in Springville, New York. The ride was first introduced in 1953 and then supposedly remained in production until 1963, when Smith & Smith closed its doors. Smith & Smith began building amusement rides in America back in 1920. The most commonly recognized ride that they built was the “Chairplane” which was very popular with generations of both young and old amusement park goers. (see attached image) Maybe some of you can still remember this swinging chair ride from your childhood days and your visits to the amusement park with your family?
Smith & Smith built rides that were commonly referred to as, swing type rides, in that, they suspended the rider, in this case, seated in the Spaceship/Airplane which was then attached by chains to the overhead ride structure and then the motorized ride moved in a circular motion, allowing the rider to "swing" through the air and experience the sensation of flying, as they rode in the Spaceship/Airplane. Simple, but fun! This was Classic 50’s Americana.... from Carnivals, Midways, County Fairs and Amusement Parks of the past.
The pictures really tell the story on this vintage ride. This twin cockpit ride is presented here in original, as-found condition. No modifications appear to have ever been made on this ride. It is a true survivor, with not a lot of them still known to exist. The fiberglass appears to be in very good, original condition, especially after almost 70 years of experience, flying countless thrilled junior space enthusiasts around in a circle. Please, examine all of the attached images carefully and if you'd like any additional information, or if you have any question(s), we are, of course, happy to try to help, just send us a message. The ride is being offered in, "as-is" and in, "where-is" condition.
This very cool looking, vintage Spaceship can be scheduled for inspection at Ride Restorations, in Chadwick, Illinois.
