    Description

Hello Folks.... This is a Vintage, Atomic-Age, Seldom Seen, Funtastic, Amusement Park / Carnival - Spaceship / Rocket / Airplane Ride / Swing.
The true name for this vintage atomic age ride is, “Jet Fighter Airplane Ride” which was built by Smith & Smith Amusement Rides, Inc. based in Springville, New York. This mid-century ride was first introduced in 1953 and then supposedly remained in production until 1963, when Smith & Smith closed its doors. Smith & Smith began building amusement rides in America back in 1920. The most commonly recognized ride that they built was the “Chairplane” which was very popular with generations of both young and old amusement park goers. (see attached image)
Smith & Smith built rides that were commonly referred to as, swing type rides, in that, they suspended the rider, in this case, seated in the Spaceship/Airplane which was then attached by chains to the overhead ride structure and then the motorized ride rotated in a circular motion, allowing the rider to "swing" through the air and experience the sensation of flying, as they rode in the Spaceship/Airplane. Simple, but, PURE FUN! This was Classic 50’s / 60's Americana.... from Carnivals, Midways, County Fairs and Amusement Parks of the past.
The pictures really tell the story on this vintage ride. This unique twin cockpit ride is presented here in original, as-found condition, with plenty of both... paint loss and old paint, bumps and bruises, a few scrapes and some dirt, all consistent with its maturity and usage. No modifications appear to have been made to this ride. It is a true survivor, with not a lot of them known to still exist. The fiberglass body appears to be in good overall original condition, especially after almost 70 years of passenger experience, flying countless young thrilled, junior space enthusiasts around in a circle. Please, examine all of the attached images carefully and if you'd like any additional information, or if you have any question(s), we are, of course, happy to try to help, just send a message.
The ride is being offered in, "as-is" / "where-is" condition.
Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.  If you choose to pick-up the ride locally in Forked River, NJ 08731.... assistance loading the ride can be provided.
The ride measures approximately;  72" length x 26" width x 28" height (to the top of the rear wing)
This ride would make an incredibly fun restoration project, that you could then later proudly display, either in your home or business. For sure, it would definitely receive a lot of attention and get plenty of smiles.
The attached image shows the same version of this Smith & Smith Spaceship ride, beautifully restored and converted into a really incredible looking Rocket Racer Spaceship kiddie ride. That kiddie ride sold at auction for over ,000. (see attached image)  The Rocket Racer kiddie ride was professionally restored by Joshua Kreuder, proprietor of Ride Restorations located in Chadwick, Illinois. The image is provided for reference / comparison only.
If nothing else, you could just hang it, the way it is, from the corner of your building. (see attached image)  This vintage Spaceship/Airplane Ride, may be enjoyed in as many potential ways as you can dream.
