DESCRIPTION:This is a very unique game. I've never seen another like it, and I have been in this business for 30 years, buying and selling and hoarding and going through every warehouse I can find. And it is fully working, or appears to be. I'll tell you everything I know about it, which won't take very long at all.
It was made by MDM Leisure, which is in Cardiff, England in October of 1991.
What it is now:
It is currently a "redemption" style game, meaning that you play it in hopes of winning tickets, which can then be traded in for prizes at a prize counter. You know, like Chuck E Cheese or any local Family Entertainment Center. The game plays like a slot machine, where there are three reels, but instead of having bells and fruit and bars on them, the reels have portions of different people in different settings/attire.
You try to make all three reels land on the same person. If you do, you are rewarded with a number of tickets. Different people are harder or easier to get, and therefore pay out a different number of tickets. This is just how a slot machine works except that a slot machine pays out in coins rather than tickets.
What it used to be:
With a little investigation, I discovered clues that made it very obvious that this game was modified, probably when brought into the USA from England, to make it a redemption game rather than a payout slot machine. Our gambling laws are much different than the rules in the UK and there are very few places that you can operate a payout slot machine in the US.
First, you can clearly see a long tray where coins would drop and gather when you win. Then when you look in the back door, you can see screw holes laid out in three different places where there used to be three coin hoppers - the device that collects and pays out coins in a slot machine. Finally, when you look at the manual and the game boards, you see many references to the three hoppers, which proves that this used to have hoppers and payout coins.
Why does this matter:
I don't really know. But I know that payout slot machines are really cool and that this would be really fun to play as a payout slot. If I had the right hoppers, I would convert it back. But I bet those hoppers are out there and it would not be rocket science to screw them back in place and plug them into the board.
LOCATION:
This game is located in sunny, beautiful downtown McLean, IL 61754. That's right....where Arcadia: America's Playable Arcade Museum, Pinball Paradise, and Hotel Arcadia are located! I suggest buying this game and then making its pickup a fun family road trip! We have over 100 playable games and luxurious arcade-themed lodging options. Contact me for more details or look for hotel Arcadia on airbnb.
SHIPPING:
I am happy to ship this to you, or work with your shipper, or meet you when you come to pick it up. I might even be able to personally deliver it for a fee, depending on where you are located. If you are interested in some sort of shipping/delivery, contact me with your zip code and I will get back to you with all of your shipping/delivery options.
Lately, I have been using NAVL / STI for all shipments. They do take the best care of games and also aren't too terribly much more expensive than bare-bones LTL shipping. However, I do have all of the palletizing and material handling equipment necessary if you need me to palletize this and fork it into a semi.
I can also ship this internationally anywhere in the world. You will have to send me your address and give me a couple days to get an exact international quote. They don't have an online quoting system, so I have to ask a human to figure up a quote and get back to me. This takes a couple of days usually. However, the rates aren't as bad as you might think. I've shipped games to the UK for under 0, to Europe for between 0 adn 800. Australia isn't too bad, but more than the UK.
For what it's worth, I have been collecting (hoarding) games for almost 30 years and selling them on eBay since about 1997. I have probably shipped two thousand games (many but not all on eBay), from individual games to full containers. You won't find a more reputable seller...check my feedback. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a money-back guarantee on this just because a lot can happen in shipping. What I CAN guarantee is that if you pick the game up, or if not when the game leaves my hands, it will be exactly as described and photoed above. And in 30 years of selling, I have never left anyone in the lurch or ripped anyone off. I'm a fair, honest guy...ask anyone.
