Wheatley Pottery JT 1880 Stylized Dogwood Vase Albert Valentien
Wheatley Pottery was founded by Thomas J. Wheatley in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had worked with the founders of the art pottery movement, including M. Louise McLaughlin of the Rookwood Pottery. He started T.J. Wheatley & Co. in 1880. That company was closed by 1884. Thomas Wheatley worked for Weller Pottery in Zanesville, Ohio, from 1897 to 1900. In 1903 he founded Wheatley Pottery Company in Cincinnati. Wheatley Pottery was purchased by the Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company in 1927.
Here we have an outstanding Wheatley Pottery vase from 1880. This beauty stands 13 inches tall and was originally a lamp base as the hole on the bottom as been filled in some time ago. This outstanding piece is artist signed Albert Valentien on the base. Valentien has beautifully hand painted stylized dogwood flowers across the body of the piece. The white flowers pop against the gray, black and white background that was painted with broad brush strokes. Truly a marvelous piece to behold.
All images are original and un-edited. Authentic Wheatley Pottery by Albert Valentien.
